The Sailboat Race Dream

THE DREAM

This morning I woke from a dream that felt different. Even while I was still in it, I realized God was showing me something. That doesn’t happen often. When it does, you pay attention.

Let me tell you what I saw.

THE SETUP

I’m riding in the back of a friend’s pickup truck. He’s pulling a trailer with a small sailboat on it. The mast is sticking up in the air with a faded yellow and blue sail cloth catching the wind. Not the safest setup. I pull the mast down and secure it.

We arrive at a large lake. Sailboats everywhere. People were preparing for a race. We get our boat in the water.

And that’s when I notice: our boat is one of the smallest there. The sail is faded and worn. The other boats? Massive. Pristine. Professional-grade equipment. New rigging. Perfect sails.

We definitely look outmatched.

THE RACE

The race starts. Wind fills our small, faded sail. We’re moving.

But here’s what’s crazy: we’re not just keeping pace. We’re leading.

The bigger boats, the ones with all the advantages, are struggling. Falling behind. Having problems with their equipment. Their pristine sails aren’t catching the wind right.

But our little boat with its faded sail? Cutting through the water effortlessly.

We’re winning.

THE REVELATION

Then it hit me. Still in the dream. Clear as day.

It’s not about the boat.

It’s not about having the newest equipment. The best gear. The most impressive appearance.

It’s about catching the wind.

Our sail was positioned perfectly. While the other boats were focused on their equipment, their status, how they looked to everyone else, we were focused on one thing: the wind.

And that made all the difference.

I woke up still feeling the sensation of the wind. Still seeing our little boat leading the race.

THE LESSON

The wind in the dream? That’s the Holy Spirit.

The sailboats? That’s us. All of us trying to serve God, making an impact with our lives, winning the race.

The bigger boats with all the advantages? Those are the people with resources, platforms, credentials, impressive resumes. The ones who look like they should be winning.

Our small boat with the faded sail? That’s the person who doesn’t have all the advantages. Who doesn’t look impressive on paper. Who feels outmatched and under-resourced.

But here’s what God showed me:

It’s not about your resources. It’s about your positioning.

When you’re properly positioned to catch the Holy Spirit, when you’re focused on Him rather than your circumstances or how you measure up to others, you move forward with power.

You lead when others fall behind. Not because you’re better. But because you’re aligned with the Source.

THE COMPARISON TRAP

The other boats had everything going for them from a worldly perspective. Better equipment. More resources. Impressive appearance.

But they weren’t catching the wind.

Why? Because they were focused on the wrong thing. Their attention was on their boat, their equipment, how they looked compared to everyone else.

They were so busy comparing and competing that they missed the Wind.

This is the trap. You look at other men who seem to have it all together. Better job. More ministry opportunities. Larger platform. Impressive credentials.

And you think, “I can’t compete with that. I don’t have what they have. I’m just a small boat with a faded sail.”

But you’re missing the point.

WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS

God can use anyone and anything that’s yielded to Him.

It’s not about your credentials. Your resources. Your platform. How impressive you look.

It’s about being positioned to receive His Spirit.

Are you spending time in prayer? In the Word? Listening for His voice? Staying yielded to His direction?

That’s positioning. That’s adjusting your sail to catch the Wind.

The men with all the resources who aren’t positioned right? They’ll struggle. They’ll fall behind. Despite having every advantage.

But you? With your faded sail and humble boat? If you’re positioned to catch the Wind of God, you’ll move with power. You’ll accomplish what He’s called you to do. You’ll lead.

THE QUESTION

Stop comparing yourself to other boats. Stop wishing you had their equipment, their advantages, their platform.

Ask yourself one question:

Are you catching the Wind?

Are you positioned to receive what God wants to give you? Are you focused on Him or on your circumstances? Are you yielded to His Spirit or distracted by comparison?

Your boat might be small. Your sail might be faded. You might feel outmatched.

But if you’re positioned right, you’ll win the race.

Not by your strength. Not by your resources. Not by your impressive credentials.

By the power of the Holy Spirit filling your sail and moving you forward.

Position yourself. Catch the Wind. Win the race.
